TRAIL CONSTRUCTION NEWS
Summer 2017 saw several projects under construction on the Gitchi-Gami. We are thrilled to announce that a short gap in the trail between Beaver Bay and Silver Bay has been closed! Our longest continuous trail segment now links riders between Gooseberry Falls State Park, winding through Iona's Beach Scientific and Natural Area,  Splitrock Lighthouse State Park, and connecting the communities of Beaver Bay and Silver Bay. From the the beautiful new trailhead wayside in Beaver Bay, bicyclists and pedestrians can now continue on the trail over the Beaver River Bridge (where the trail is accommodated on the inland side) and connect to brand new trail up the West Road!

A trail reconstruction project within Temperance River State Park was also completed this summer, and we hear good things about the new alignment of this short segment that had experienced some heaving due to artesian springs.

With the help of the Minnesota Legislature, we will see more construction in 2018! Follow us on our Facebook page here to be kept up-to-date with trail projects happening in the Grand Marais and Tofte areas next spring and summer!

You can follow the construction process by reference to the chart on this website.

GGTA WEBSITE
The GGTA website was revamped in 2011 using the web design services of Boreal Sites in Grand Marais. The website is still "under construction," with new content planned.

Please let us know your comments about and suggestions for the website. Is there other information you would like to see included? Go to the Contact Us page and send us an email.

Most important, we want to expand our photo gallery. Do you have photos of the trail - scenery, people, construction, annual ride - that you could share with us? Go to the Contact Us page and send us an email attaching your pictures. If you have more than three, you can send multiple emails or, better yet, download them onto a disk and send to the GGTA at P.O Box 74, Silver Bay, MN 55614.
